Anne and Crosbie are real characters, we loved getting to know them and all their beautiful animals.
They are originally english, but live in the french countryside-in the middle of nowhere, with 3 dalmatians, 3 spotted ponies, an axolotl, and a giant white horse. Most of the work we did was gardening, painting, cutting/stacking wood, helping at the dog refuge, and taking care of the horse and ponies.
Some highlights of our time there:
-Beautiful dog walks in the woods- the leaves were so colorful and it was just gorgeous
-Going on a pony carriage ride with Anne- she has a lot of carriages and trains the dogs and horses to go really far, it’s really cool!
-Tartiflette made by Crosbie
-Pizzas made by Crosbie
-Foraging for chestnuts, walnuts, figs and mushrooms- also, studying the mushroom book to make sure they weren’t poisonous..and almost eating mushrooms that smelled like breaks haha
-Asian food night with our hosts and their friends
-Meeting people our age at a local bar-Tom and Laura- and meeting lots of cool people that they’re friends with too
-Going to the dog refuge in Lannemezan and seeing dogs get adopted :’) -see their website here!
-Girls night out with Anne and her friends 🙂
-Trying to start a fire with a wood burning stove in our gite without smoking the place out
-Gorgeous morning runs along the canal
-Bologne Sur Gesse market and pizzas with Crosbie
-Bike ride to visit Tom at work and having an amazing meal at Austins!-if you’re in the area definitely go!
-Making fig and walnut cake with foraged figs and walnuts 🙂
-Seeing Anne’s Beehives and trying to kill giant hornets
-Watching 5th element with Crosbie and Anne
We had such a great time and had a couple super peaceful weeks. Our hosts always joked that World War 3 could happen and you wouldn’t be able to tell because it’s so calm there haha.
